On December 13th I was detailed to the Eastern District, an area notorious for extreme violence, to enforce weapons violations.  While stopped at a red light two subjects came out of a fast -food establishment looked around and quickly went into, what I call, the “felony-run”.  The suspects did not observe my presence as both were holding their waistbands quickly running into an adjacent alley.  Obviously my suspicions where raised and I quickly drove my car ahead of them through side streets and tactically entered the top of the alley while communicating to responding officers.  Suddenly the suspects began to run again after hearing responding unit’s sirens.  The foot chase was on and as my Danners caught up to the first suspect he produced a handgun from his waistband.  To the ground we went and after breaking his grasp on the old rubber band gripped gun it fell to the ground and immediately dangerously discharged.  The suspect was handcuffed and I quickly checked for bullet holes!  No holes and the dispatcher advised that the food establishment had just been a victim of armed robbery.  Unlike the loyalty that my Danner’s maintain on a daily basis the suspect in custody turned on his so-called partner and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.  CC#93 3L10503
